"hack" iPhone/iPod touch sync: address book

Postby stormy » Sat Oct 06, 2007 7:21 pm

As you probably know, the iPhone doesn't import to-dos from iCal. Even worse, the iPod touch doesn't let you add anything to iCal! But both models allow you to add and modify address book contacts.

It's a total hack, but I'm sure it would be easy to create an address book group named iGTD, and inside of it, contacts named "Inbox", etc. with all your tasks in them.

The idea needs more thought but it's WAY easier than trying to create and run web-app through Safari.

I second that motion- great idea Stormy.

CALLING ALL APPLESCRIPT WIZARDS!
Could someone write an AppleScript that would:
1) Create an Address book entry for each iGTD context
2) Sync (in iGTD order) the tasks in the Notes field of the newly created context(s)
3) Have a Shorthand for completed/uncomplete - i.e. "O" not done "X" done
4) Create a second AppleScript to "resync" the address book to iGTD

Real World Example:

CONTEXT: Errands
Tasks: Buy Milk, Return shoes, Wash Cat at Pet Store, Weave Baskets underwater at the YMCA

Action Sequence:
1) First AppleScript is run
2) "Errands" is created/synced in Address book
3) the following shows up in the notes field:
0 Buy Milk
0 Return shoes
0 Wash Cat at Pet Store
0 Weave Baskets underwater at the YMCA
4) Sync iPhone
5) Go Run Errands
6) While out, change the 0 to an X if the task has been completed
7) Return Home
8) Sync iPhone
9) Run AppleScript #2
10) Whatever tasks have been Added go into the "InBox" (Maybe need an extra context called "InBox") Whatever tasks have been changed to X are marked completed in iGTD
11) We love you, name our dog after you, generally huzzah, have big party and rejoice your being, since $#^^!@$#ing apple left us out in the cold. :)

how about just creating an apple script that emails a specific context from igtd to your email account upon demand or on a schedule. then, you could have the email on your iphone, say for errands, when you're out and about.

yes, you can just select all items in a context and email them while in igtd. wouldbe nice to have it automated or triggerable.

Does anybody have any idea about this iPhone hack on TechTaxi? The one using Jailbreak and the Chip.... Does it allow future firmware updates? Has anybody used this hack before. What are the results?

How can i add songs from an ipod to my xbox or the Lips game?
I have just got the lips game and have noticed that it is possible to add ipod songs to the play lists. So i have connected my ipod to my xbox, and nothing happens. I look in the Get music. But my ipod songs are not there. I go back to the dashboard, and in the music folder, it says i haven't connected any external devices. However, my ipod touch is charging while it is connected... Also, does it matter if it in the front or back?
