Hi Barton,

Google Calendar had no todos (only events) last time I looked. How would you want iGTD to work with Google Calendar?
pkahle is working on a sync for Backpack, and I am working (slowly) on a text sync for iDisk (on dotMac). Both projects are mentioned here: http://igtd.phpbb24.com/viewtopic.php?t=1599

MacGyver Google Calendar Rig

Postby polly » Mon Aug 13, 2007 4:27 pm

Hey there -

Here's what I do to sync. . . it's a little klunky, but I find it works nicely now that I have it set up.

I subscribe to my google calendars in iCal; that way they're viewable for the people at home and work who need to see them, and I can have theirs as well. I like the iCal interface and usability better than g-cal, but don't have .Mac. Still, want to share my calendars and be able to edit them from the web when I'm not with my machine.

I have a calendar in iCal called COMPUTER, which I use to enter things regularly. I upload that to my various g-cals regularly; it takes less than a minute to do. Then I clear that calendar (because all those events are now on the g-cals).

My iGTD syncs with iCal (and therefore g-cal), and my to do items can be sorted in the to-do pane.

I'm sure others have similar or better rigging going on for networking (home/office) purposes. Interested in other solutions!

Hi polly! Thanks for sharing your steps for getting your iCal events to your Google calendars! I think Barton was asking for a way to sync iGTD tasks to Google calendar. As nitwit pointed out, I don't believe Google calendar supports to dos, only events. Is this correct? Or are you able to upload your iCal to dos to g-cal?

Also, are you able to sync changes in g-cal to iCal (without exporting to csv then importing to iCal each time) or is it only a one way transfer of data (iCal to g-cal)?

Nope, have to export.

Postby polly » Tue Aug 21, 2007 2:19 am

No, they don't sync on their own, I have to export the ical file every time. . .

Yeah, why doesn't Google Apps support a to do list system more than just the little widget? Because that thing is useless to me beyond the put it at the front door metaphor. I'm sure there are GTD widgets out there; but are there GTD widgets that rock?

That sync with iGTD?

Hi there,
There are a couple of solutions for doing bi-directional sync between iCal and Google Cal.
gsync - http://www.macness.com/blog/
Spanning Sync - http://www.spanningsync.com/
gcaldaemon (free) - http://gcaldaemon.sourceforge.net/usage13.html

So, what you can do is have iGTD sync out iCal, then your choice of the above apps will sync iCal and Gcal. Everything should be seemless and automatic.
I tried qsync, but found it to be a bit clunky and more on the lines of freeware, but it costs $20.
I'm currently trying out the demo of Spanning Sync. So far it is much better in my opinion. It integrates much nicer in to OSX. It have its negatives though. Such use of a server and $25 yearly subscription model. But for me and my situation, $25 is a fair price.

EDIT:
I just started using IGTD and noticed that it syncs Tasks and to dos to iCal.
I'd like to see an option in preferences to sync them as events (or whatever you call them) to iCal. That way they will be synced to gCal using one of the apps I mentioned above. This would be an easy way to get tasks up to Google automagically.

Hi jagreenwood! Thanks for the information and links! Support for due time continues to be discussed here and is listed in ::POPULAR FEATURE REQUESTS SUMMARY::
